New Traffic Plan in Pune: Major Roads to be Restructured Starting September 21
Pune’s traffic police and Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) are launching a new traffic plan starting September 21. This plan will be tested on Ahmednagar Road, Solapur Road, and North Main Road. The initiative comes after the traffic police identified 32 of the city’s most congested roads in July.
To combat traffic jams and reduce travel time, the traffic police and PMC collaborated on a series of decongestion strategies.
They addressed key issues like road widening, removal of obstacles such as billboards and electrical poles, drainage repairs, pothole fixes, maintenance of traffic signals, and improved intersection management.
Additionally, they will use traffic control devices and separation techniques with Google’s assistance.
From the 32 identified roads, the traffic plan will first be implemented on Ahmednagar Road, North Main Road at Koregaon Park, and Solapur Road. Traffic diversions will be in effect at several main chowks, including Fatima Nagar, Wanowrie, and Kalubai, with alternate routes provided. On Ahmednagar Road Chowk, intersection roads will be closed, and U-turns will be introduced at Agniban and Somnath Nagar Chowks to improve traffic flow.
The new plan is designed to function similarly to the traffic management on Ganeshkhind (Pune University) Road. Additionally, a traffic plan has been drafted for Navale Bridge, Radha Chowk, and Ambedkar Chowk on Warje Road. These measures aim to alleviate congestion and streamline traffic across the city.
