31 Couples Get Married On Valentine’s Day At Pune Marriage Registration Office
Pune: Valentine’s Day, a symbol of love and togetherness, continues to be a popular day for weddings. This year, 31 couples tied the knot at the Pune City Marriage Registration Office on February 14, having pre-registered in advance to formalize their union on this special day.
Valentine’s Day: A Popular Wedding Date
Over the past few years, Valentine’s Day has gained popularity among couples for registering their marriages. According to Marriage Registration Officer Sangeeta Jadhav, many couples prefer to marry under the Special Marriage Act, which allows for a simple, non-religious procedure.
Jadhav stated, “Couples who wish to avoid religious formalities choose registered marriages due to the simplicity and legal validity provided under the Special Marriage Act. This has led to a steady increase in registered marriages at our office.”
Pre-Registrations and Efficient Process
The 31 couples who married on February 14 had pre-registered one and a half months ago, as required under the Special Marriage Act, which mandates a public notice period. Once no objections were raised within the stipulated time, the couples were eligible to marry in the presence of three witnesses and receive their certificates immediately.
The Sub-Registrar Office ensured smooth operations and issued marriage certificates on the same day. The office at the Government Printing Press (Photozinco), Pune, witnessed a large crowd on Valentine’s Day, with couples eager to complete their marriages.
Growing Trend of Registered Marriages
The trend of choosing registered marriages is on the rise due to their simplicity, legal validity, and swift processing. The Valentine’s Day rush highlights the appeal of celebrating love with an official union.
