The Gadag Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) in Karnataka has taken strict action by suspending 38 medical students after a reel shot inside the hospital premises went viral.

The videos circulating online depict three female students dancing to a Bollywood song and more than 10 students enacting the lyrics of a Kannada song.

The Director of GIMS, Dr Basavaraj Bommanahalli, reportedly issued the suspensions and warned of severe consequences if such incidents were to occur in the future.

This move comes as part of the institute’s efforts to maintain discipline and ensure the proper conduct of students within the medical facility.

This incident echoes a similar occurrence in August 2023 when 11 Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) students from the Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences (KIMS) in Hubli were suspended for creating and sharing offensive reels about nurses on Instagram.

In that instance, a student dressed as a nurse performed a provocative dance to a Kannada song, leading to disciplinary actions.
