69 enraged Pune couples unite, thanks to Lok Adalat

National Lok Adalat was held across the country on Saturday and the Pune family court at Shivajinagar saw a rare occurrence of 69 couples withdrawing their divorce petition.

Pune stood first in the state to settle maximum disputes in a day’s time. A total of 130 panels were kept at the respective courts to settle issues amicably.  

The majority of the litigation were traffic violations, petty offences, cheque bounce cases, matrimony issues, among others.

The court premises looked celebrative as enraged couples, one after another, insisted on withdrawing their application.

Sharing his thoughts about the same, Pratap Sawant Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Pune said, ” Under the guidance of Principal district judge and chairperson of DLSA, Pune, counseling is given by the judges, counselors and lawyers. The impact is felt now. . We also have an initiative termed – Let’s Talk concept – where we call the couples to share their grievances based on which, the judges along with lawyers and counselors opt for restoring their marriage life. The efforts were only for restoring their family life back. “

Advocate Vaishali Chandane, president, the Family Court Lawyer Association, Pune said, “Lockdown has made them realise how important is family support. Also due to COID, many have lost their jobs and have become financially weak. We personally counseled them.”
