National legal services authority officials visited Yerwada central prison inmates

National and state legal service officials gave a patient hearing to the concerns raised

Pune A delegation of members from the National Legal Service Authority (NALSA) and Maharashtra Legal Service Authority visited the Yerwada Central Prison, Pune on Sunday, May 8 evening to observe and check the facilities provided to the jail inmates.

The member secretary of NALSA, Ashok Jain along with D P Surana of Maharashtra state Legal Service Authority (MSLSA) and Pratap Sawant, secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Pune were part of the delegation.

Others who were part of the delegation included para legal volunteer Pritam Shinde, law student Umar Kazi and lawyers Yashpal Purohit and Mikhil Chate. A team of prison officials headed by superintendent Rani Bhosale were also present.

“The officials interacted with the jail inmates and noted down their concerns. The latter were also asked about the legal aid provided to them. The inmates asked the delegates if time with family members can be extended.  The lawyers appointed by the Bombay high court were also present. Ashok Jain and Surana tastes the food given to inmates at the prison.”
