771 electricity thefts worth 2.55 crores come to light in Pune regional division
In a shocking revelation, a total of 771 cases of electricity theft and 238 cases of unauthorised use of electricity have been identified in the Mahavitaran Pune regional division in the month of December alone.
In December 2022, a strict campaign against electricity theft was implemented and 7404 electricity connections were inspected. A total of 771 cases of electricity theft worth Rs 2 crore 55 lakh and 238 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption worth Rs 81 lakh 23 thousand came to light. A total of 149 lakh rupees was recovered in 417 cases.
A total of 2 thousand 962 electricity connections were detected in Pune circle. In this, 144 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 272 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
A total of 2 thousand 361 electricity connections were checked in the Baramati circle. In this, 53 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 359 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
A total of 2 thousand 81 electricity connections were checked in Kolhapur circle. In this, 41 cases of unauthorized electricity consumption and 140 cases of electricity theft have been revealed.
Mr. Ankush Nale, Regional Director of Pune Regional Division directed to intensify the campaign against electricity theft. According to Section 135 and 136 of the Electricity Act 2003, theft of electricity is a punishable offense with imprisonment of up to 3 years. Therefore, Mahavitran has appealed to consumers to refrain from electricity theft.
