Assistant Public Prosecutor Arrested For Bribery In Pune
In a significant action by the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB), Anjala Nalini Kamalkar Navgire, the Assistant Public Prosecutor at the Pune Cantonment (Lashkar) Court, was arrested for accepting a bribe. The arrest occurred after she was caught red-handed taking $10,000 from a complainant.
The bribe was intended to facilitate the return of a Maruti Swift car seized by the Hadapsar Police in June 2024. The car was taken in connection with a criminal case involving the complainant’s husband. To recover the vehicle, the complainant applied to the court, which directed the public prosecutor’s office to present their submissions. During a meeting at her office, Navgire allegedly demanded £10,000 to assist with the recovery process.
Unwilling to comply, the complainant reported Navgire to the ACB. The bureau conducted an initial verification on July 26, which confirmed the bribery demand. A second verification on August 14 further substantiated the allegations. Subsequently, a trap was set at Navgire’s office in the Pune Cantonment Court.
The operation was led by Superintendent of Police Amol Tambe and Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Sheetal Janve, with Police Inspector Rupesh Jadhav leading the ongoing investigation. Navgire was apprehended while accepting the bribe, marking a significant development in the case.
The investigation into the matter continues.
