Pune: 14-Day Judicial Custody for Van Driver Held in Sexual Assault Case
Driver accused of sexually assaulting two schoolgirls, sent to Yerawada Central Jail.
A special court on Tuesday remanded a 45-year-old private van driver to 14 days of judicial custody in connection with the sexual assault of two six-year-old Std I school students on September 30. The driver was later transferred to Yerawada Cen Jail.
A Senior inspector (Wanowrie) said, “We recorded the confessional statements of the two girls before a magisterial court.
They spoke to 10 other girls travelling in the same private van and their parents. However, they did not make complaints against the driver.
He said, “We also questioned the school authorities. Prima facie, their involvement in the crime was not revealed. We seized the school van that was vandalised by five men, of whom four were arrested.”
DCP of Zone IV said the van driver did not have criminal antecedents. The owner of the van told police that the driver was hired two years ago.
