Suresh Kusale advocates for Rs.5 crore reward and Pune home for his son's Olympic success
Swapnil Kusale’s father, Suresh Kusale, expressed his dissatisfaction with the prize money given to his son by the Maharashtra government. He questioned the state’s policy on cash rewards for Olympic medalists and urged that the amount be raised to ₹5 crore.
Additionally, he suggested that his son should be provided with a flat near Pune’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Sports Complex and that the 50-meter three-position rifle shooting arena should be named in his honor. PTI reported Suresh Kusale’s comments, where he stated, “Swapnil should receive ₹5 crore as a reward and a flat near Balewadi Sports Stadium for easier access to practice. His name should be assigned to the 50-meter three-position rifle shooting arena.”
Swapnil Kusale’s father, Suresh Kusale, criticized the Maharashtra government’s policy for rewarding Olympic medallists, highlighting the state’s low number of Olympians compared to Haryana, which awards ₹5 crore to each medallist. He questioned why the prize for his son, who is only the second individual Olympic medalist from Maharashtra in 72 years, is just ₹2 crore.
Suresh expressed that if he had known about such low rewards, he would have encouraged Swapnil to pursue a different career. He also raised concerns about whether the prize amount would be different if Swapnil came from a wealthier background and suggested that the 50-meter three-position rifle shooting arena should be named after his son.
