Mastercard Opens New Tech Hub in Pune to Drive Growth and Innovation
Pune: Mastercard has announced the inauguration of its new, state-of-the-art Tech Hub in Pune, India. This facility is set to enhance Mastercard’s expanding footprint in India, which already includes offices in Gurugram, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bengaluru, and Vadodara.
The Pune Tech Hub, spanning nearly half a million square meters, is the latest addition to Mastercard’s global network of Tech Hubs, joining sites in Arlington, Dublin, New York, St. Louis, Sydney, and Vancouver. It aims to support Mastercard’s technology advancements on a global scale, while also reinforcing the company’s commitment to India’s digital growth and development.
Ed McLaughlin, President and Chief Technology Officer at Mastercard, stated: “Our new Tech Hub in Pune will play a pivotal part in Mastercard’s global technology strategy. As one of the key nodes for our technology operations worldwide, the new Pune Tech Hub will collaborate with other hubs around the world to build the revolutionary technologies that shape our world, powering economies to make everyday life happen. It also serves as a testament to Mastercard’s enduring commitment to empowering India, furthering its digital ambitions, and nurturing the immense talent in the country.”
Situated at Bluegrass Business Park in Yerwada, Pune, the new Tech Hub will house over 6,000 technologists, engineers, and experts from various disciplines, including software development, finance, data architecture, and cybersecurity. This facility will now be Mastercard’s largest workforce in a single city globally.
Mastercard’s presence in Pune began in 2014, and since then, its workforce in the city has significantly expanded, demonstrating the company’s commitment to investing in local talent and supporting the Indian economy. The Pune Tech Hub plays a crucial role in Mastercard’s global operations, focusing on payment safety, cybersecurity, fraud detection, and digital identity.
The new campus will strengthen Mastercard’s capabilities in delivering technological solutions for India’s domestic market. Key initiatives include the Community Pass, a financial inclusion platform, and the Payment Passkey Service, a biometric and tokenization system for secure online checkouts. Additionally, Mastercard acts as an authorized Authentication Service Agency, enabling banking and government partners to offer Aadhaar-based services and benefits.
Mastercard’s Pune Tech Hub fosters collaboration among employees to tackle some of the most complex technological challenges facing the world today, ensuring secure, seamless, and efficient global payments. The new facility is designed to deepen partnerships between Mastercard’s global teams and India’s vibrant technology ecosystem.
