Bengaluru has secured the fourth position among Indian cities housing the wealthiest individuals, according to the Hurun India Rich List 2024.

The city has surpassed Chennai, Pune, Kolkata, and Ahmedabad to become the residence of the highest number of Indian billionaires.

Bengaluru, renowned for its thriving unicorn startups, has made significant contributions to India’s economic landscape. The Hurun India Rich List 2024 highlighted an impressive 52 founders from 29 of these unicorn companies.

Here are the five leading names on the list

Azim Premji

The wealthiest individual in the city this year is Azim Premji, the chairman of Wipro, boasting a net worth of Rs 190,700 crore. Additionally, the 79-year-old billionaire ranks as the ninth richest person in the nation, according to the Hurun list.

Irfan Razack

Irfan Razack is a billionaire entrepreneur hailing from Bangalore, India. He serves as the Chairman and Managing Director of Prestige Group, a well-respected property development firm in the country. Irfan Razack occupies the 51st position, having experienced a remarkable 178% increase in his wealth, which now totals Rs 43,600 crore.

Nithin Kamath

Zerodha CEO Nithin Kamath ranks 57th with a net worth of Rs 41,000 crore, reflecting a changed by 16% in his wealth. Nithin Kamath, along with his brother Nikhil Kamath, established the discount brokerage firm Zerodha in 2010. This venture significantly transformed the brokerage landscape in India. Based in Bangalore, Zerodha now boasts a client base of 10 million, positioning it among the largest brokerage firms in the nation.

Kris Gopalakrishnan

In 74th place is Ranjan Pai, whose wealth stands at Rs 34,700 crore. He is a physician, entrepreneur, and the chairman of the Manipal Education and Medical Group. Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw occupies the 98th position with a fortune of Rs 29,000 crore. She is the executive chairperson and founder of Biocon, a biotechnology firm located in Bangalore.
