Former Hadapsar MLA Mahadev Babar convened a critical meeting with party workers this morning, following the announcement of Prashant Jagtap as the Nationalist Congress Party Sharadchandra Pawar candidate for the Hadapsar constituency by Jayant Patil in Pune last night. The decision, which surprised Babar and his supporters, has sparked considerable tension within local party ranks.

Babar earlier this week also met Uddhav Thackeray in Mumbai over candidacy through Shivsena.

Babar, expressing dissatisfaction with Jagtap’s selection, has openly stated he may run as an independent candidate in the upcoming assembly elections. His meeting was attended by party members, including former corporators Megha Babar, Sangeeta Thosar, Bharat Choudhary and Tanaji Lonkar, Rajendra Babar, Sameer Punjabi along with other local leaders, highlighting a significant show of support for the former MLA.

As Babar and his supporters weigh their next steps, this development adds a layer of complexity to the NCP’s strategy in Hadapsar, where Babar’s potential independent run could impact the party’s overall voter base in the constituency.
