Pune: PMPML Bus Catches Fire At Swargate Depot; Quick Action By Staff And Firefighters Prevents Disaster
Pune, November 9, 2024: – A Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited bus caught fire on the morning of November 9, 2024, at around 9:43 am in the Swargate Bus Depot workshop area. Upon receiving the alert, a fire engine from the main fire station was immediately dispatched to the scene.
Firefighters arriving at the site observed flames concentrated at the front of the bus. They quickly brought the fire under control within ten minutes by spraying water from all sides, successfully extinguishing the flames and preventing further danger. The bus sustained significant damage, though the cause of the fire remains unknown. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The PMPML staff, who had previously attended fire safety training sessions conducted by the fire department, credited this knowledge and preparedness with helping them take initial control of the situation. They managed to contain the fire before firefighters arrived by using fire extinguishers, expressing their gratitude to the fire department for the practical training and demonstrations provided.
The firefighting team, led by Officer Prashant Gaikar and including driver Atul Mohite and firefighters Chandrakant Gawde, Azeem Shaikh, Sagar Thombre, Mayur Thube, and Tushar Jankar, played a key role in this successful operation.
