Pune: ATM Thief Caught; Quick Response By Security Guard And Traffic Police
Businessman Sentenced to One Year Rigorous Imprisonment for Molesting Female Bank Employee During Address Verification Visit
A 24-year-old man, Santosh Brijesh Kumar, was arrested by the Vishram Bagh Police Station authorities for tampering with an ATM and stealing money from a customer’s account. The incident occurred at a bank’s ATM center on Kelkar Road in Pune. Kumar, a resident of Pratapgarh, Uttar Pradesh, was caught by a security guard and traffic police after stealing cash from the ATM.
According to the police, the victim, Rajesh Shah, a 53-year-old businessman from Sadashiv Peth, had withdrawn money from the ATM two days prior. However, when the cash didn’t dispense, he received a message stating that the amount had been debited from his account. Shah informed the bank, which revealed that the withdrawal was due to technical tampering.
The police investigation revealed that thieves tamper with ATMs by inserting a small metal strip into the cash dispenser slot. This causes the money to get stuck, unseen by the customer. Once the customer leaves, the thieves remove the strip and take the stolen cash. This is not the first incident of ATM tampering in Pune, and the police have urged customers to be vigilant.
The police have advised customers to check the ATM for any visible tampering and inform the bank and police if money doesn’t dispense. Customers are also advised to monitor their accounts regularly to detect any suspicious transactions. The police are taking measures to prevent such incidents and ensure the safety of ATM users.
The arrested thief’s companion, whose identity has not been disclosed, has passed away. Police Sub-Inspector Santosh More is investigating the case. A case has been registered against Kumar at the Vishram Bagh Police Station. The police are working to prevent further incidents of ATM tampering and ensure the security of customers’ accounts.
