The Maharashtra assembly elections are just around the corner, and all eyes are on the youth vote. With 17.39 lakh voters in the 18-29 age group in Pune alone, candidates are pulling out all the stops to attract young voters. The number of new voters from 18 to 19 years old is a staggering 1.78 lakh, and candidates are focusing on youth-centric campaigning and meeting with youth groups to secure their votes . This demographic is crucial, as their votes are expected to be decisive in the election outcome.

In Pune, the Chinchwad constituency has the highest number of new voters, with 13,737 young people eligible to cast their ballots for the first time. Bhosari constituency follows closely, with 13,303 voters in the 18-19 age group. In contrast, Peth constituency has the lowest number of new voters, with 3,747. The Chinchwad constituency boasts the highest number of new voter registrations, while Kasba Peth constituency has the lowest. With 1.7 lakh youth voters across 21 constituencies in Pune district, and 2.5 lakh new voters casting their ballots for the first time, the youth vote will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the future of the state.

The high number of independent candidates contesting in each constituency has sparked discussions about the potential for closely contested elections. As a result, every vote will count, and candidates are working hard to attract new voters. The emphasis on employment issues is a key strategy, as young voters are eager to hear about job creation and economic growth.
