Repos Energy, a Pune-based startup founded in 2017 by husband-wife duo Aditi Bhosale Walunj and Chetan Walunj, has emerged as a game-changer in India’s energy sector. By introducing a door-to-door diesel delivery model, the company is addressing inefficiencies such as dead mileage, spillage, pilferage, and adulteration in traditional fuel supply chains. With a name derived from “relentless” and “positive,” Repos embodies its founders’ vision of transformation and tenacity.
The idea of Repos Energy was sparked by a simple Amazon delivery. Aditi, a chemistry and forensic science graduate, and Chetan, an engineer managing his father’s petrol pump, envisioned applying an e-commerce-like model to fuel distribution. With late Ratan Tata, who was their key backer, their startup leveraged cutting-edge technology, including IoT and cloud solutions, to deliver diesel directly to housing societies, construction sites, hospitals, and more across 65 Indian cities.
Navigating the highly regulated oil and energy industry posed initial hurdles, but Aditi and Chetan discovered unexpected support from the government and industry leaders. Repos Energy not only improves convenience but also seeks to address global challenges like reducing carbon footprints and enhancing energy efficiency.
The company’s clientele includes prominent names such as Larsen & Toubro, Mahindra & Mahindra, Tata Group, and JW Marriott. Their impact has extended to shaping policy, with the founders contributing to the government’s task force on doorstep diesel delivery.
Repos Energy’s success story is intertwined with the contributions of interns and fresh graduates. Starting with a team of inexperienced but enthusiastic hires, the founders collaborated with them to design the company’s business model. Today, these early team members occupy key leadership roles, proving the power of mentorship and purpose-driven teamwork.
