Mumbai-Pune Missing Link Reopens After Landslide Debris Clearance; Two Lanes Reopened
Pune, July 7, 2026: In a major relief for commuters, the Mumbai-Pune Missing Link (Connecting Link Road) has been reopened for traffic after being temporarily closed due to a landslide caused by heavy monsoon rains.
Traffic from Pune towards Mumbai had been suspended after a landslide struck the final stretch of the Missing Link. Following nearly eight to nine hours of continuous efforts by highway police and the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC), the debris was cleared and two lanes were reopened, restoring smooth vehicular movement.
Despite relentless rainfall, strong winds and poor visibility due to dense fog in the ghat section, MSRDC teams worked continuously under challenging conditions to make the route safe for commuters.
Before reopening the road, MSRDC and technical experts carried out several critical safety measures. All landslide debris and loose rocks were immediately removed from the affected stretch, and the roadway was thoroughly cleaned using advanced equipment to ensure safe passage.
A detailed inspection of Tunnel 2 and the adjoining hillside was conducted to identify any unstable rocks or loose soil that could pose a risk of further landslides. Authorities also attempted to carry out an aerial drone survey of the area, but dense fog, heavy rain and strong winds limited the operation.
MSRDC said the road was reopened only after all necessary safety checks and technical evaluations were completed, emphasizing that commuter safety was the top priority.
Although traffic has resumed, the administration has advised motorists to avoid non-essential travel as intense monsoon conditions continue in the ghat and dam regions. Citizens have also been urged to strictly follow traffic advisories and safety instructions issued by the authorities while travelling.
