Pune, November 22, 2024: Kasba Peth in Pune, Indapur in the district, and Kolhapur in the state have emerged as leaders in voter turnout during the Maharashtra Assembly Elections 2024.
Kasba Peth recorded a city-high of 59.26%, while Indapur topped rural regions with 76.91% turnout. Kolhapur led statewide, with a remarkable 76.63%, surpassing its 2019 figure of 74.8%.
Both Congress candidate Ravindra Dhangekar and BJP nominee Hemant Rasane from Kasba Peth expressed optimism, attributing the increase in turnout to their prospects of victory. The voter turnout in Kasba rose by 10%, compared to the 50% seen during the March 2023 by-election.
In Indapur, voting continued late into the night across 337 polling stations, with heavy police deployment ensuring smooth proceedings. However, disputes were reported in Lakhewadi and Shirsatwadi villages.
Kolhapur’s Karvir assembly seat achieved an impressive 84.96% turnout, while Kagal (82.51%) and Shirol (78.08%) followed. Key contests included Congress’s Rahul Patil against Shiv Sena’s Chandradip Narke in Karvir, and NCP’s Hasan Mushrif against Sharad Pawar-led NCP’s Samarjeetsinh Ghatge in Kagal.
The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), led by Uddhav Thackeray and Sharad Pawar, faces stiff competition from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, comprising BJP, Shiv Sena, and Ajit Pawar’s NCP.
