Pune: PMC Cracks Down On Illegal Hoardings After Bombay High Court's Directive
In a bid to maintain a cleaner and more organized urban environment, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has issued an order urging political parties to refrain from putting up illegal banners and hoardings. This move comes after the Bombay High Court directed the state government, municipal corporations, and councils to take strict action against unauthorized structures.
The PMC has been actively removing unauthorized hoardings, banners, posters, kiosks, flags, and wall posters across the city. The corporation has appealed to all stakeholders, including political parties, to act responsibly and respect the court’s orders. Failure to adhere to the norms will result in strict legal action under various sections of the Maharashtra Municipal Corporation Act and other relevant laws.
The Bombay High Court’s directive is a response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed regarding illegal hoardings and banners in municipal areas across Maharashtra. The court has also directed the state home department and director general of police to provide necessary force to assist municipal bodies in taking action against unauthorized structures.
The PMC’s initiative aims to ensure a safer and more organized urban environment. By cracking down on illegal hoardings, the corporation hopes to promote a culture of responsibility among political parties and other stakeholders. As Prashant Thombre, deputy commissioner, sky sign and licence department, PMC, said, “The municipal corporation urges all stakeholders to act responsibly and respect the court’s orders”.
