Pune Builder Sentenced to Six-Month Imprisonment and Fined Rs 20 Lakh for Issuing Bounced Cheques
A builder has received a six-month prison sentence and a fine of Rs 20 lakh for issuing dishonored cheques. This decision was made by a local court in Pune.
Sudhir Singh Madhav Singh Pardeshi, a 70-year-old man from Kasba Peth, filed a complaint against Vikas Murlidhar Chavan, the owner of Sainath Associates, who resides in Dhankawadi.
The complaint stated that he had been paying the builder for a flat from 2006 to 2016 but never received it. In 2017, the builder promised to return the money but issued cheques that bounced.
In his complaint, Pardeshi mentioned that he had paid Rs 11 lakh to Chavan for the flat during the years 2006 to 2016. When the flat was not delivered, Pardeshi confronted Chavan, who issued two cheques for the refund. However, both cheques bounced when Pardeshi tried to deposit them. After multiple unsuccessful attempts to get his money back, Pardeshi chose to file a complaint against Chavan.
In court, Advocate Bilal Shaikh represented Pardeshi, with assistance from Advocates Wasim Pathan and Kedar Khopade. After examining the case, JMFC VP Khandare sentenced Chavan to six months in jail and ordered him to pay Rs 20 lakh in compensation to Pardeshi.
