Pune Municipal Corporation Decides On Sadhu Vaswani Flyover Demolition Near Pune StationĀ
Pune: The demolition of the remaining section of the Sadhu Vaswani Flyover near Pune Station, which crosses the railway tracks, will commence this Monday. The Railways have granted in-principle approval for the project and have sent an official letter to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC).
Located in the Koregaon Park area, the Sadhu Vaswani Railway Flyover has been in use for over 50 years. The PMC has deemed the structure unsafe for traffic and decided to replace it with a new railway flyover. The estimated cost for the project is approximately ā¹83 crore.
Previously, PMC had initiated work to dismantle the bridge. The new flyover design was submitted to the Railways for approval, which initially suggested avoiding central pillars under the bridge. A design change was made, and it was decided to construct the bridge using the “Open Web Girder” method instead of the “Bow String Girder” method. The new flyover will span 54 meters and is being constructed as per railway administration guidelines.
The remaining demolition work will begin Monday, with the Railways providing a 30-day block for the project. Residents living in slum settlements near the flyover will be relocated to Hadapsar, according to PMC Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P. and Chief Engineer of the Projects Department Yuvraj Deshmukh.
Around 60 slum dwellers near the site will be rehabilitated at Hadapsar, while 40ā50 remaining residents will be given a week to vacate. If resistance occurs, forced relocation may be considered, said Additional Commissioner Prithviraj B.P.
