To ease access to the international business hub of Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has constructed a new alternative road connecting the Eastern Express Highway to BKC. The 180-meter-long underpass, termed the “BKC Connector,” has been completed and will be opened for traffic on Monday. This new route is expected to save commuters around 15 minutes of travel time.
BKC has long been plagued by traffic congestion. To address this, the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road was built, and its expansion is ongoing. Additionally, a dedicated road from the Eastern Freeway to BKC has significantly improved connectivity since 2019. However, increasing vehicle numbers on these routes have led to severe traffic bottlenecks during peak hours, especially on internal roads within BKC.
The new connector links Plot No. C79 and Plot No. C80 in BKC’s G Block. It connects Avenue 5 (SEBI Building) and Avenue 3 with a six-lane road. The project, completed at a cost of ₹3.98 crore, aims to decongest key areas, including MCA Club, consulates, and the MTNL Junction.
MMRDA officials stated that with the completion of this road, internal traffic congestion in BKC will reduce significantly, benefiting both commuters and motorists. The new road will help streamline the movement of vehicles across major hubs in the area.
The initiative underscores MMRDA’s commitment to enhancing urban infrastructure and improving traffic conditions in Mumbai’s key commercial zones.
