24 Year Old Arrested In Pune For Possessing Fake Currency Notes Worth ₹77,200
In a significant crackdown on counterfeit currency, the Samarth Police have arrested a 24-year-old youth from Gujarat for allegedly attempting to circulate fake currency notes in Pune. The accused, Gaurav Rampratap Savita, a resident of Jamnagar, Gujarat, was found in possession of 203 counterfeit notes, including 142 ₹500 and 61 ₹100 denominations, amounting to ₹77,200.
The arrest was made during a combing operation on Friday night, led by Senior Inspector Umesh Gitte. Acting on a tip-off, the police team inspected a lodge in Somwar Peth, Rasta Peth, and learned about an individual staying near the Shri Untade Maruti Mandir in Rasta Peth, who was in possession of counterfeit currency.
When the police approached the location, Gaurav attempted to flee but was apprehended. A search of his belongings revealed the counterfeit notes. He was immediately taken to the Samarth Police Station for further interrogation.
Lakhan Shete filed a complaint regarding the incident at the Samarth Police Station. This arrest highlights the ongoing efforts of the Pune police to curb counterfeit currency and maintain law and order in the city.
