A year-end school trip to Kashid Beach in Raigad turned into a tragedy when the headmaster of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule High School in Pisoli, Pune, drowned in the sea. Dharmendra Deshmukh, 56, was part of a group of 11 students and teachers who were enjoying the holiday.

According to eyewitnesses, the group entered the seawater for swimming and recreational activities. While playing in the water, Deshmukh was swept into the deep by a powerful tidal wave and disappeared under the waves. Lifeguards stationed at Kashid Beach launched an immediate search operation and managed to locate and pull Deshmukh from the water after some time.

Despite efforts to save him, Deshmukh was rushed to the Borli Primary Health Centre and later referred to the civil hospital in Alibag, where doctors declared him dead upon arrival. The incident has sent shockwaves through the school community and the students who were part of the trip are reported to be in a state of trauma.
