A mock drill was successfully conducted by the Industrial Health and Safety department and the Federation of Chakan Industries at Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Chakan on December 19, 2024. The drill simulated a gas leakage scenario, demonstrating how to effectively respond to and control the situation.

The local administration, Fire and Rescue Services personnel, nearby industries, and other stakeholders participated in the mock drill, which aimed to test emergency preparedness and response mechanisms ¹. The exercise involved putting out a fire that had crossed the first two stages, utilizing available facilities, including security cordons and firefighting equipment. Additional support, such as two more fire tenders and ambulance services, was also deployed to control the situation and facilitate rescue operations.

Key dignitaries, including Additional Director Industrial Health and Safety Department Smt Sradhha Ondule, Dy. Director DISH Smt Trupti Kamble, Mr Swapnil Deshmukh Dy. Director DISH, Dilip Batwal (Secretary, Federation of Chakan Industries), Mr S P Kumar Plant manager Hindustan Petroleum Ltd and over 70 company representatives e.g. Mahindra, Bajaj, Volkswagen, Mercedes observed the mock drill and shared their observations. These observations were discussed in a post-drill meeting, providing valuable lessons for the industries involved.
