Pune to Welcome New Year with Cooler Temperatures, Minimum Temp Likely to Drop to 12°C
Weather Update: Pune Temperature Drops To Single Digits After A Month-Long Warm Spell
Pune is expected to usher in the New Year with a cooler climate, with the minimum temperature likely to drop to 12-13°C in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a 2-3°C drop in the minimum temperature is forecasted for parts of Maharashtra, including Pune.
The current warm trend, with minimum temperatures 6-7°C above normal in many areas, will see a marginal reversal due to changing atmospheric conditions. The IMD attributed the impending temperature drop to the penetration of dry and cold northwesterly winds into the region.
On Saturday, Pune recorded a minimum temperature of 17.3°C in Shivajinagar and 17.5°C in Pashan. The IMD forecast indicated a drop of 2-5°C in western and central India over the next three days.
“We are looking at a range of 12-15°C for Pune over the next few days,” said SD Sanap, IMD-Pune scientist while communicating with media person. Sanap clarified that while the minimum temperature would drop, it was unlikely to come down below 10°C in Pune.
The temperature drop aligns with the seasonal transition and the penetration of northerly winds into the region. Weather expert Abhijit Modak stated that a gradual decrease in minimum temperatures was expected for the Madhya Maharashtra region, with a return of a climatologically wintery feel as the region moves into the New Year.
Mahabaleshwar recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state on Saturday at 16°C. Urban areas like Kolhapur, Nashik, and Solapur reported night temperatures between 19°C and 20°C, higher than usual.
