Massive Group Performance by 11600 Dancers in Kerala Earns New Guinness Record
The event featured nearly 550 dance teachers from around the world, along with participation from 7-year-old children.
Mollywood actress Divya Unni achieved an extraordinary milestone by leading a team of approximately 11,600 dancers, successfully breaking the Guinness World Record with their outstanding performance.
The event took place at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Kochi on Sunday, December 29. Divya Unni and her team have successfully set a new record, surpassing the previous one of 10,176 dancers.
The dancers, under the direction of Divya Unni, created a clockwise circle around the actress at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The music, composed by Anoop Sankar, accompanied their performance, which featured the dancers dressed in elegant silk blue saris and lasted for 8 minutes.
Anoop Sankar is a versatile Indian artist known for his work as a playback singer, songwriter, stage performer, VJ, RJ, and media personality.
The event featured nearly 550 dance teachers from around the world, along with participation from 7-year-old children. It also attracted several actor-dancers, including Paris Laxmi, Vidya Unni, Uthara Unni, and many others.
Divya Unni, renowned for her performances in films such as ‘Kalyana Sowgandhikam’ and ‘Aakasha Ganga’, has stepped away from the film industry and is now living in the United States. She remains actively involved in stage performances worldwide as a dancer.
“The event was a grand dream we had long awaited. It was the moment we had been looking forward to for so long. This song was specifically composed for that occasion. Our costume partner and main sponsor was Kalyan Silks, who provided 12,500 sarees for the dancers. The production was crafted with the event’s logo prominently featured. For all of us, this is a cherished memory. Even after the event concludes, it remains a unique blessing that we will always remember,” says Divya Unni.
However, a case has been lodged against the event organizers following an incident where Kerala MLA Uma Thomas sustained significant injuries after falling from a 15-foot high gallery that lacked proper barricades. The Palarivattom, Kochi police have officially opened an investigation into the organizers of the event titled ‘Mridanga Naadam’. This action was taken after a complaint was submitted by the MLA’s Secretary, Shalu, who accused the organizers of negligence.
