In a bid to enhance passenger convenience, the Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) has introduced a Vehicle Tracking System (VTS) on its buses. This innovative system, modeled after the railway tracking system, enables passengers to track MSRTC buses in real-time.

The VTS technology has been successfully installed in over 16,000 MSRTC buses, including 850 in the Pune division. After rigorous testing and troubleshooting, the system is now ready for passenger use.  The waiting period will soon be known through mobile, making it easier for passengers to plan their journeys.

The VTS system relies on GPS and modern technology to provide accurate information about bus locations and expected arrival times. However, officials acknowledge that internet connectivity issues in rural areas and challenging terrain, such as ghats and tunnels, may cause occasional disruptions to the service.

Despite these challenges, the MSRTC is committed to providing a seamless experience for its passengers. A full-fledged mobile application is currently under development, which will enable passengers to access information about seat vacancies and bus timings with ease.

With the VTS system, MSRTC aims to bring transparency and convenience to its passengers, making their travel experience more efficient and enjoyable. As the system rolls out across the state, passengers can look forward to a more streamlined and passenger-friendly service.
