Pune, January 15, 2025: To ensure accurate billing and prevent financial losses to both Mahavitaran and its electricity consumers, faulty and malfunctioning electricity meters should be replaced on priority, directed Mahavitaran CMD Lokesh Chandra during a review meeting held at Pune’s ‘Prakash Bhavan.’ The meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on the progress of various projects in the Pune regional division.

Lokesh Chandra emphasized that accurate billing for every unit of electricity consumed is essential. Faulty meters lead to financial setbacks for both Mahavitaran and consumers, while also depriving users of precise knowledge about their monthly power consumption. Adequate new electricity meters are available, and efforts to replace malfunctioning and faulty meters have been expedited to address these issues.

The CMD further stressed the importance of providing new electricity connections promptly as per the standards of service. He urged officials to focus on recovering outstanding electricity bills, as around 85–90% of consumers pay their bills regularly, but 10–15% delay payments, leading to rising arrears. He advised stringent action, including permanent disconnection, for high-tension category consumers if their dues exceed their security deposits.

Highlighting Mahavitaran’s achievements, Chandra noted the record demand of 25,808 MW on January 11 during winter, which was met without additional power purchases due to efficient planning. He praised initiatives like the Chief Minister’s Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme, which ensures daytime electricity for farmers and reduces industrial and commercial tariffs. He called for swift implementation of these programs and urged coordination with the revenue department to expedite progress.
