Pune: Woman Assaulted While Feeding Stray Dogs in Pimple Saudagar
A 34-year-old woman was injured in an alleged assault while feeding stray dogs near Kashid Park in Pimple Saudagar on January 14 around 10:30 p.m.
According to the FIR filed at Sangvi Police Station, the victim identified as Arrpana Bose was approached by two women who objected to her feeding the dogs. The argument quickly escalated as three men joined in. The complainant alleged that her hair was pulled, her face scratched, and one of the men struck her with a stick. Another person reportedly snatched her phone.
A medical examination revealed multiple injuries, including abrasions on her ear, cheek, and chin, along with blunt trauma to her head and wrist.
Animal welfare activist Padmini Stump, founder of the Mission Possible Foundation, accompanied the victim to file the FIR. The case has been registered under several sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including Sections 189(2), 189(4), 191(1), 191(2), 190, 75, 115(2), 118(1), 352, and 351(2).
“The woman was attacked outside a residential society while feeding stray dogs. Three men and two women were involved in the assault,” said a Pimpri-Chinchwad police official.
The incident has sparked outrage among animal welfare groups. Activists emphasized the need to protect both stray animals and citizens who feed them. The Supreme Court has previously ruled that stray dogs have the right to food and citizens have the right to feed them.
Police are investigating the case to ensure justice is served.
