Maharashtra's Rs.6,499 Crore Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Highway Set for Cabinet Review
The detailed project report (DPR) for the proposed Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur National Highway 548D has been submitted to the Maharashtra Cabinet for approval. Brijesh Dixit, Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation (MSIDC) Managing Director, shared this update during a meeting on January 22 at the MSIDC office in Mumbai.
MLAs Sunil Shelke (Maval) and Babaji Kale (Khed), along with the Talegaon-Chakan-Shikrapur Highway Action Committee, reviewed the project’s status. They discussed traffic congestion issues and demanded urgent progress.
Brijesh Dixit emphasized that the highway project requires GST, stamp duty, and others usage exemptions to make it financially viable. A draft seeking these approvals was sent to the Cabinet on January 1. Approval will enable rapid land acquisition and tendering.
The 53-km highway will connect NH-48 (Mumbai-Pune Highway) to NH-753 (Pune-Sambhajinagar Highway), reducing traffic congestion near Pune. The plan includes upgrading the two-lane road to a four-lane elevated highway with flyovers at key locations. The project is estimated to cost ₹6,499.22 crore and will be financed via toll securitization or loans, with MSIDC as the project executor.
MLA Shelke assured follow-up with Deputy CM Ajit Pawar for swift approval from the cabinet. MLA Kale raised concerns about immediate traffic solutions, to which Dixit responded that it is officially under the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) and relief measures will follow post-approval from cabinet.
The Highway Action Committee, led by Nitin Gade, praised MSIDC’s efforts.
The highway is expected to significantly ease travel and improve connectivity for Pune commuters.
