Koyta Gang Strikes Again in Yerwada: CCTV Captures Shocking Acts of Vandalism
Pune, often celebrated as an educational and cultural hub, is currently witnessing a troubling surge in violent crimes. The Yerwada area, in particular, has been hit by a spate of criminal activities involving the infamous Koyta gang, whose members have been implicated in acts of vandalism and assault.
In one shocking incident, a young man named Shrikant Chavan was brutally attacked by a gang member wielding a koyta (machete). Following this, CCTV footage revealed three young men armed with koytas, bamboo sticks, and other sharp weapons vandalizing multiple vehicles in the area. The rampage, which appeared to be an attempt to spread fear among residents, has left the community on edge.
The Yerwada police have registered a case against the suspects and launched an intensive search to apprehend them. However, the recurrence of such incidents has raised serious concerns about public safety and the effectiveness of local law enforcement.
Ravindra Dhangekar Criticizes Authorities Over Rising Knife Gang Violence
Local leader Ravindra Dhangekar has criticized authorities for their perceived failure to curb the rise of knife gang violence in Pune. He accused those in power of fostering ties with criminal elements, thus enabling the surge in unlawful activities. Dhangekar urged the authorities to prioritize public safety and called on the police commissioner to take decisive action against these gangs. He also emphasized the need for better governance and stricter enforcement of law and order.
Pune Police Launch ‘Cop 24’ Initiative to Tackle Crime
In response to the escalating violence, the Pune Police have introduced a new initiative called ‘Cop 24’ to ensure swift assistance to citizens and a stronger police presence across the city. According to Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, 726 police personnel have been deployed under this program to combat crime, provide immediate support, and restore a sense of security among residents.
This initiative aims to reassure the public and address the rising fears caused by recent incidents, while also underscoring the need for sustained efforts to ensure law and order in Pune.
