Rapid Response Team Urges PMC to Intensify Focus on GBS-Affected Areas in Pune
Pune: Following a surge in Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) cases in the Sinhagad Road area, the municipal health department had conducted a survey of patients exhibiting symptoms like diarrhea and vomiting. However, to pinpoint the exact cause of the outbreak, a central high-level health team conducted an urgent reassessment on Wednesday, sources confirmed.
GBS Cases Concentrated in Sinhagad Road Area
Reports indicate that 80% of Pune’s GBS cases have been found in the Sinhagad Road region. In response, municipal health teams had conducted door-to-door surveys to identify patients with relevant symptoms. During the survey, 144 individuals were found exhibiting diarrhea and vomiting—symptoms often associated with GBS.
On Wednesday, the central health team inspected local water sources in the affected area. Following their assessment, they held a meeting with municipal health officials to discuss further steps.
Key Directives from the Central Health Team:
- Inspection of water sources in the Sinhagad Road area.
- Meeting with municipal health officials to strategize the response.
- Training survey teams on necessary data collection and expected findings.
- Instructions for an immediate resurvey of suspected cases.
- Daily submission of survey reports for monitoring the situation.
The central health team emphasized the need to determine the precise cause of the outbreak and directed local health teams to conduct a fresh survey focusing on symptoms and possible sources of infection.
