Maharashtra Board To Permanently Derecognize Exam Centers Involved In Malpractices

Pune: In a significant decision, the Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) has announced strict measures to curb exam malpractices during the upcoming Class 10 (SSC) and Class 12 (HSC) board exams scheduled for February-March 2025.

The board has revised its earlier decision, which restricted teachers and staff from the host school from handling exam-related duties at their respective centers. Instead, the new directive mandates that for exam centers where malpractices were reported in the last five years (excluding 2021 and 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic), invigilators and exam staff will be assigned from other schools.

Additionally, the board has warned that any exam center found involved in future malpractices will face permanent derecognition.

Official Circular and Response

State Board Secretary Devidas Kulal issued an official circular addressing the revised policy. Earlier, the decision to restrict host school teachers from exam duties had faced strong objections from public representatives, school managements, and teachers’ associations, who demanded its reversal. In response, the board modified its stance while ensuring stricter vigilance.

Key Directives from the Maharashtra Board:

  • Teachers and staff from other schools will be deployed at centers where malpractices occurred in the past five years (2018, 2019, 2020, 2023, and 2024).
  • District Collectors and Vigilance Committees will have the authority to make necessary arrangements for ensuring fair exams.
  • Education officers must ensure full-time surveillance teams at each exam center during the examination period.
  • Strict monitoring will be implemented to maintain transparency in the conduct of exams.

With these stringent measures, the Maharashtra State Board aims to uphold the integrity of board examinations and eliminate unfair practices across the state.
