Major Traffic Relief For Sinhagad Road: Two New Flyovers Set To Open Soon
Pune: Commuters on Sinhagad Road can soon expect smoother travel as the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) gears up to open two new flyovers. The 2,120-meter-long flyover from Vitthalwadi to Funtime will be operational by the end of March, while the 1,540-meter flyover from Goyalganga Chowk to Prakash Inamdar Chowk is scheduled to open by May-end. These projects are part of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ 100-day, seven-point program.
The new infrastructure will ease traffic congestion for approximately 6-7 lakh daily commuters who regularly face long delays on this busy stretch. Rapid urbanization over the past two decades has significantly increased traffic along Sinhagad Road, particularly with development extending to Khadakwasla Dam and the Pune-Bengaluru Highway. The existing road, with several major intersections and varying widths, has been unable to handle the growing volume of vehicles.
PMC officials said the flyovers will address traffic bottlenecks at five key intersections: Prakash Inamdar Chowk, Hingne Chowk, Santosh Hall Chowk, Manik Bagh Chowk, and Ganga Bhagyodaya Chowk. Executive engineer Sandeep Patil explained, “Previously, drivers would spend 4-5 minutes at each intersection, with traffic moving at just 9-12 km/h. The new flyovers will increase vehicle speed, reducing travel time across the 2.5-km stretch from 30 minutes to just five.”
Asphalting work is currently underway and expected to be completed within 15 days, along with the construction of approach roads. Once completed, these flyovers will significantly ease the daily commute, providing long-awaited relief to residents and commuters on Sinhagad Road.
