Local Body Elections Likely to Be Delayed Until After Monsoon; Supreme Court Defers Hearing

Accidents While Commuting to Office Will Be Counted as 'On Duty' — Big Decision by Supreme Court
New Delhi: The possibility of conducting local body elections before the monsoon has diminished, as the Supreme Court briefly heard the matter in a two-minute session today but did not provide clarity. The key issue of whether the 27% reservation for Other Backward Classes (OBCs) has been resolved remains unanswered.
Both parties have expressed support for holding elections, but there is a dispute between the government and 23 petitioners regarding whether the elections should be conducted under the old ward system or a newly proposed one.
Given the complexity of the matter, the court deferred the case without setting a date for the next hearing. Additionally, the Supreme Court will observe its Holi break from March 9 to March 16, further delaying any progress on the issue.
