Pune: The price of drumsticks, which had peaked at ₹600 per kg during the winter, has now significantly dropped. With an abundant supply in the market, retail prices have fallen to ₹40-₹50 per kg.

In December, unseasonal rains in southern states affected drumstick cultivation, causing prices to soar to ₹500-₹600 per kg in retail markets. Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh are major drumstick-producing states, along with regions like Pune, Nashik, Sangli, Satara, Kolhapur, Solapur, and Pandharpur. Due to rising temperatures, farmers have increased harvesting, leading to an oversupply and a subsequent decline in prices.

According to traders at Shri Chhatrapati Shivaji Market Yard, wholesale prices for 10 kg of drumsticks currently range from ₹100 to ₹200, while the price per kg in wholesale markets is ₹10-₹20, depending on quality. As summer progresses, demand for drumsticks tends to decrease, and traders anticipate a further dip in prices.
