Pune is experiencing significant temperature fluctuations, with hot daytime conditions and cooler nights. Meteorological data revealed that on Tuesday, Shivajinagar recorded a high of 38.7°C and a low of 16.7°C, marking a sharp 22-degree difference. Similar trends were noted in NDA (38.6°C to 15.8°C) and Pashan (38.8°C to 17.4°C).

Meteorologists attributed this diurnal variation to clear skies, which lead to rapid heating during the day and quick cooling at night. While such fluctuations are common during seasonal transitions, experts warn that they may impact public health. Sudden temperature swings can weaken the immune system, making people more susceptible to viral infections, respiratory ailments, and heat-related issues.

A family physician highlighted a surge in cases of viral infections, allergic bronchitis, severe body pain, headaches, and nosebleeds due to these fluctuations. The body’s thermoregulatory system struggles to cope with rapid shifts in temperature, especially when the difference exceeds 20 degrees.

On Tuesday, Lohagaon recorded a maximum of 40.3°C (4 degrees above normal) and a minimum of 21.2°C, resulting in a diurnal variation of 19.1°C. Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s highest temperature was recorded in Brahmapuri (41.5°C), while Nashik registered the lowest minimum temperature at 15.4°C.

According to IMD Pune, night temperatures have dropped slightly over the past day. However, changes are expected in the coming days, with partly cloudy conditions likely from Wednesday onwards. This cloud cover may reduce maximum temperatures slightly while causing nighttime temperatures to rise due to moisture from the Bay of Bengal.

The forecast for Pune (Shivajinagar) on Wednesday indicates mainly clear skies, with maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 38°C and 17°C, respectively, with no rainfall anticipated.
