Pune News: Dedicated Express Lane Introduced for Feeder Buses from Pune Airport to AeroMall
Pune Airport To Enforce 15-Minute Parking Limit At New Terminal To Curb Traffic Chaos
Pune: To streamline passenger movement, an express lane has been introduced for feeder buses transporting flyers from Pune airport’s arrival gate to the cab pick-up zone at AeroMall. The initiative aims to prevent delays caused by private vehicles parking haphazardly in front of the arrival and departure areas, especially during late evening hours.
YS Rajput, Vice-President of AeroMall, stated that the express lane became operational earlier this week, ensuring that no vehicle is parked in its designated space. “We have three buses ferrying passengers from the airport to AeroMall, where they can access cabs. Earlier, private vehicles parked improperly in front of the departure area, causing delays for these buses. With all flights now shifted to the new terminal, faster transportation is crucial,” he explained.
Parking Violations a Major Concern
All flights at Pune airport have been operating from the new terminal since March 5. However, illegal parking remains a challenge. “We cannot keep arguing with those who park incorrectly,” Rajput added. “Whenever a vehicle is found parked with its engine off and no occupant inside, we impose fines. But now, people leave someone in the passenger seat with the engine running to avoid penalties. When our staff asks them to move, they argue over technicalities, blocking the feeder bus route.”
Earlier, Pune airport enforced fines on vehicles parked beyond 3-4 minutes. Currently, commercial vehicles are allowed to drop off passengers but not pick them up. Private vehicles can enter only for pick-up or drop-off and must exit immediately. Those arriving early for pick-ups are advised to wait at AeroMall’s multilevel parking, but many flout the rule.
Rajput mentioned that AeroMall authorities have written to the airport administration for a resolution. “The Airports Authority of India (AAI) headquarters is yet to provide clarity on the issue,” he said.
Flyers Demand Urgent Action
Passengers have expressed frustration over the delays. “At Pune airport, the waiting time for buses and cabs is often longer than the flight duration,” said Amit Thakare, an IT professional and frequent traveler.
With increasing complaints from travelers, authorities are under pressure to improve transportation efficiency and enforce parking regulations more strictly.
