  • – Enable Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) if available.
  • – Disable unnecessary features, including remote access, to minimize cyber threats.
  • – Use a Virtual Private Network (VPN) for remote access.
  • – Regularly monitor system logs for any suspicious activity.

2. Physical Security Measures

  • – Store NVR/DVR devices in a secure location to prevent unauthorized access.
  • – Take regular backups of CCTV footage on cloud storage or an external hard drive.

3. Firmware and Software Updates

  • – Regularly update firmware with security patches provided by the manufacturer.
  • – Keep CCTV monitoring software, including mobile apps and desktop software, up to date.

4. Secure Wi-Fi Network

  • – Use WPA3 encryption for enhanced Wi-Fi security.
  • – Change default router login credentials immediately.
  • – Enable a network firewall to ensure secure data transmission between CCTV cameras and the network.

Pimpri-Chinchwad Police have urged residents and businesses to follow these measures to protect their CCTV systems from hacking attempts. The advisory comes at a time when several cases of CCTV footage leaks have been reported across the country, including a recent cybercrime case where hackers accessed and sold private videos from various locations.

Police officials emphasize that taking proactive steps in cybersecurity can help safeguard personal and public security infrastructure from cyber threats.
