Pune News: PMC to Start Issuing Property Tax Bills from May 1
Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will begin issuing property tax bills for the financial year 2025-26 from May 1, instead of the usual April 1, due to the ongoing verification of PT-3 forms submitted by property owners seeking a 40 per cent rebate on residential properties.
Pratibha Patil, Deputy Commissioner of PMC’s property tax department, confirmed the delay, citing the pending verification as the primary reason. “As the review of applications for a 40 per cent concession is still ongoing, property tax bills will be issued from May 1.
Residents should take advantage of the available discounts and ensure timely tax payment,” she stated.
Despite the delay, taxpayers can still avail themselves of a rebate of 5 per cent to 10 per cent if they pay their property tax before June 30. Typically, PMC offers these discounts for payments made before May 31. The 40 per cent concession applies to property owners who reside in their own homes, in accordance with state government regulations. To qualify, homeowners were required to submit PT-3 application forms. So far, approximately 1.5 lakh to 1.75 lakh applications have been received across different municipal offices.
The verification process has been prolonged due to a shortage of staff in the property tax department. Additionally, the department has been prioritizing revenue enhancement efforts over the past two months, further delaying the application review.
Patil emphasized that issuing bills without updating records could lead to inconvenience for taxpayers, as they would need to visit municipal offices for corrections. To prevent this, the department is ensuring that all applications are verified before generating the tax bills.
