Tanisha Bhise Death: Inquiry Finds Medical Negligence at Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital In Pune
The preliminary inquiry report into the death of pregnant woman Tanisha Bhise has raised serious questions about medical negligence at Pune’s renowned Deenanath Mangeshkar Hospital.
The report was submitted by the committee formed by the Maharashtra government.
The inquiry report highlights that the hospital failed to follow several mandatory rules under the Maharashtra Government’s Nursing Home Registration Rules, 2021. As per Rule 11(j), hospitals must prioritize critical patients, provide life-saving treatment regardless of payment, and, if needed, immediately refer patients to another facility with proper documentation.
The report found no evidence that such emergency protocols were followed. It stated that the hospital failed to offer urgent medical assistance or refer the patient in time. There was also no record of any first aid being given during the crucial “Golden Hour.”
In addition, the hospital’s charity cell, grievance redressal mechanism, and public relations officer were supposed to guide the patient’s family about treatment costs and available aid schemes. The committee noted that these responsibilities were not fulfilled either.
Tanisha Bhise was admitted to the hospital but remained untreated for over 5 hours and 30 minutes, according to the report. The hospital allegedly demanded a deposit of Rs 10 lakh before beginning treatment. It is being alleged that due to non-payment, the woman did not receive timely care.
This case has sparked outrage across the state, with calls for stronger action against hospitals that ignore emergency care norms. The final report is awaited, and further legal steps are expected.
Tanisha Bhise’s death has now become a symbol of the larger issue of healthcare access and accountability in private hospitals.
