Relief for Residents as PMC Confirms No Water Cuts Amid Sufficient Storage in Khadakwasla Dam System

Pune, April 10, 2025 — In a major relief for Pune residents, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has announced that there will be no water cuts in the city until July 15, 2025, thanks to adequate water levels in the region’s dams.

According to PMC officials, the Khadakwasla dam system currently holds 19.41 TMC (thousand million cubic feet) of water, accounting for 66.58% of its total storage capacity. This figure is higher than the levels recorded during the same period last year, providing a comfortable buffer to meet Pune’s water needs through the summer months.

The city draws approximately 1,628.12 crore litres of water per day, with an annual allocation of 14.61 TMC for the year 2024-25. Authorities have confirmed that the existing reservoir levels are sufficient to sustain the city’s supply until mid-July without the need for rationing or scheduled cuts.

While the immediate water situation remains stable, the PMC continues to focus on infrastructure maintenance and pipeline repair work to ensure efficient water distribution across all municipal zones.

Officials have also noted the importance of long-term water planning, particularly as Pune’s population is projected to reach 76.16 lakh by 2031. With growing demand, the city’s water management and infrastructure development will play a critical role in ensuring sustainable supply in the coming years.

As temperatures rise and summer intensifies, residents can breathe easy knowing that Pune’s water supply is secure for now, thanks to strong dam reserves and proactive civic planning.
