Chhaava Movie Piracy: 1,800+ Illegal Links Traced, Pune Man Arrested
Mumbai Police have arrested a 26-year-old man from Pune for allegedly uploading pirated copies of the film Chhava on a website and charging users to download it.
The accused, identified as Sagar Randhavan, was arrested from Daund in Pune district. Randhawan is said to be highly educated and was earlier involved in making content for social media.
According to DCP Datta Nalawade, a team from the South Region Cyber Police arrested Randhawan after a complaint was received from the producers of Chhava. They had found pirated versions of the movie available for download on the website skymovieshd.tech. During the investigation, cyber police discovered 1,818 illegal links circulating online.
During the investigation, the police discovered that Randhavan had purchased the domain name for the website. He had also developed an app to upload and distribute pirated movies. He charged Rs 100 per download.
Police said Randhawan initially posted reels and videos on social media and tried to earn revenue through them. But when that did not work, he shifted to movie piracy.
Chhava had become a popular film, and Randhavan saw it as an opportunity to make money. Police also found that he had uploaded other newly released movies on his platform.
Following his arrest, Randhavan was produced before a holiday court on Thursday. He has been remanded to police custody.
The police are continuing their investigation to check if others are involved and how many movies were uploaded. They are also checking the app’s user data and download records.
Authorities have urged people not to encourage piracy and to watch films only through legal platforms.
