Pune: The Pune Municipal Corporation has decided to increase the water distribution rates to private tanker operators by 5%. This decision is expected to result in higher charges for citizens who rely on private tankers for their water needs, further adding to their financial burden.

In areas where the Municipal Corporation provides inadequate water supply, it distributes free water through tankers to meet citizens’ needs. These locations include Parvati, Wadgaon Sheri, Dhayari, Ramtekdi, Chatushringi, Padmavati, and Patwardhan Bagh, where water filling stations are located.

Private tanker operators also get water from these filling stations, with fixed rates for distribution. Due to an increase in demand for tankers, particularly with expectations of further increase in May, the Municipal Corporation has decided to raise the rates by 5%.

Currently, a 10,000-liter tanker, which costs ₹666, will now be priced at ₹699. The rise in rates is attributed to increasing inflation and the need to reduce the expenses associated with water distribution. As a result of this price hike, tanker operators are likely to raise their charges as well, leading to an additional financial strain on citizens.

Tanker Rates:

  • Tanker Capacity – Current Rate – New Rate
  • 10,000 Liters – ₹666 – ₹699
  • 10,000 to 15,000 Liters – ₹1,048 – ₹1,101
  • Over 15,000 Liters – ₹1,478 – ₹1,552
