Pune: The Bombay High Court has issued strict directives to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), the district magistrate, and the special land acquisition officer to expedite work on the Baner-Pashan Link Road. The court has ordered the completion of the land acquisition process within two months and construction of the road within four months from the date of possession.

The directives were issued during a hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) on Wednesday before a division bench comprising Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice M.S. Karnik.

Disposing of the PIL, the court stated, “The district magistrate/special land acquisition officer, Pune shall complete the acquisition process within an outer limit of two months from today and hand over the land to Pune Municipal Corporation. PMC shall complete the construction of the road in question within four months from date of possession.”

The PIL was filed in 2021 by the Baner-Pashan Link Road Welfare Trust, represented by Advocate Satya Muley. The petitioner argued that the PMC had failed to take significant steps to complete the pending stretches of the road, despite repeated orders from the court.

Muley highlighted that the civic body’s inaction had led to continued inconvenience for residents in the area.
