Pune, May 20: A large hoarding collapsed near Ahilyanagar Road in the Sanaswadi area close to Wagholi during heavy rains on Monday, triggering renewed concerns over the safety and regulation of hoardings in the city.
While there were no casualties reported, the falling structure trapped 7 to 8 two-wheelers parked in the vicinity, highlighting the potential dangers such installations pose during inclement weather.
The incident has reignited public debate over the legality and structural stability of many such hoardings across Pune. Residents and activists have pointed out that several of these advertising structures may not meet the required safety norms, making them vulnerable to collapse especially during storms or heavy rains.
This episode mirrors a similar incident in Mumbai last year, where a massive hoarding collapse caused significant damage and injuries, drawing widespread criticism and calls for regulatory reforms.
