Vaishnavi Hagawane Case: Father-in-Law and Brother-in-Law Arrested In Pune

Vaishnavi Hagawane Case: Father-in-Law and Brother-in-Law Arrested In Pune
Pune: The tragic death of Vaishnavi Hagawane, daughter-in-law of suspended Ajit Pawar group member Rajendra Hagawane, has shaken Maharashtra. Despite receiving a Fortuner SUV and 51 tolas of gold as dowry, her in-laws allegedly continued to harass and physically assault her. It is reported that Vaishnavi died by suicide due to the unbearable torment she faced.
Following the registration of the case, police arrested Vaishnavi’s husband Shashank, her mother-in-law, and sister-in-law. However, her father-in-law Rajendra Hagawane and brother-in-law Sushil Hagawane had been absconding since the case was filed.
Now, eight days after the incident, both Rajendra and Sushil have been arrested by the Bavdhan police. They were reportedly hiding in rural Pune. Acting on a tip-off, police laid a trap and apprehended them early this morning around 2 AM. The duo has now been brought to the Bavdhan police station.
The police had launched a widespread search for the two men but had been unable to trace them until now. Pimpri-Chinchwad police finally managed to arrest them based on specific intelligence inputs.
Political attention has also intensified due to Rajendra Hagawane’s association with the Ajit Pawar faction. Ajit Pawar himself was present at Vaishnavi’s wedding, which has led to public scrutiny and criticism. In response, Ajit Pawar had expressed anger over the case and had reportedly ordered authorities to “bring them back in chains.”
In a statement, Ajit Pawar questioned the assumption that political families condone such behavior just because they attend events out of loyalty to party workers. He claimed he had urged the Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner to take strict action and increase the number of teams to locate and arrest the accused.
