CBDT Extends Income Tax Return Filing Deadline to September 15 for AY 2025-26

CBDT Extends Income Tax Return Filing Deadline to September 15 for AY 2025-26
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has announced an extension for filing Income Tax Returns (ITRs) for the assessment year 2025-26. The original deadline of July 31, 2025, has now been extended to September 15, 2025, giving taxpayers additional time to complete their filings.
This extension comes in response to significant changes introduced in the ITR forms this year, as well as necessary updates to the filing system. Additionally, delays in reflecting Tax Deducted at Source (TDS) credits have contributed to the decision.

Officials say the extended deadline will help ensure a smoother and more accurate tax filing process for all taxpayers.
The CBDT has already released the applicable ITR forms—from ITR-1 to ITR-7—signaling the official start of the tax season for AY 2025-26.
Taxpayers are encouraged to utilize the additional time to review their returns thoroughly and avoid any last-minute rush.
