The victim has been identified as Kartik Barman. He was working at a construction site inside the factory premises, where a toilet was being built.

Due to serious injuries from the blast, he was rushed to a hospital for treatment, but later died from his injuries.

The incident took place in the factory’s artillery section, where ammunition for the Indian Armed Forces is manufactured. Officials said the investigation will determine what type of explosive object was involved and how it came to be near the construction site.

A senior factory official said the incident shows the need to educate contractual workers about the dangers of touching unknown or suspicious objects, especially unexploded ammunition. The official also said the victim’s family should receive compensation and that more steps should be taken to improve worker safety.

Another factory official said security measures at the factory need to be strengthened. He suggested installing more CCTV cameras and improving surveillance in different sections of the factory to help prevent similar incidents in the future.

AFK is one of the oldest and most well-known ordnance factories in India. Munitions India Limited, a government-owned defence company under the Department of Defence Production, currently operates it.

Senior Inspector Vikram Kadam from Khadki Police Station said that the object remains unidentified and that the police are investigating the case to gather details about the incident.

The case of accidental death has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
